You still have your privacy in your own living quarters, but you have neighbors all around you to share your time with.

Many home retirement places have special set ups for handicap facilities as long as you can pretty much live on your own. They have medical staff available if needed and they even have house cleaning available if necessary. There are many facilities that have swimming pools and work out rooms with exercise classes available all designed for people in your own age bracket. Most of these home retirement set ups will include a recreational room that will have some stuctured events happening most of the time. The facility will try to keep you busy so you don't have a lot of free time to just sit around, but this is all for your own convenience and not a requirement. Many of the home retirement facilities will offer transportation to and from doctor visits, grocery shopping, or they may even go on small trips for fun.

The purpose for home retirement living is to be able to live on your own, but still be around others for company and socializing. You are also in a sheltered environment, so safety is not usually an issue. Many of the units will offer dining rooms where everyone is able to enjoy meals together and not have to cook for just one person. Many older people don't like to cook for just one and this way, you can have healthy nutricious meals without having to cook them yourself. As you can see, home retirement can be a lot of fun without a lot of responsibilities.
